Played golf in wanstead cpl of weeks ago, lived on Hermon hill for six years or so back in the nineties and loved it. Handy for the football could get a tube home from Friday night beers in the city or stay local and have a stroll up to the Cuckfield. Happy days indeed

Steady, my first proper girlfriend lived in Colchester Rd Leytonstone, E11. They thought they were posh - must say, lovely houses and nice people round there.

Re: Wanstead

Used to go fishing there in the 60's having been born and lived in Custom House, used to think Wanstead was some kind of heaven, not sure what it's like now but was a beautiful place then. Think Lonnie Donegan used to live there

Been a bit gentrified. Property prices getting silly.

Are you sure you're not talking about Wanstead Flats?
I haven't been over Wanstead Park for years but that's not how I remember it. Wanstead Flats on the other hand could be described that way.

Bit wanky.
Shit park that resembles a scrub.
Normal people as in, can't quite afford Highbury or Dulwich but would like to.

For those of us from Leytonstone E11, we were always the rough side and Wanstead/Snaresbrook E11 the posh side

The Holly Tree. More Forest gate than Wanstead. Proper London pub.
Used to have music in the back bar. My mates jazz band played there a lot.

Oh yeah, I forgot about Robins. Seating's a bit tight but great p&m.
The George before a game is a decent drink too. Station opposite, 3 stops from Stratford. Lovely.
